A surprising reversal

In the video above, Geoffrey Hinton presents a line of reasoning that is both thought-provoking and challenging.
It is worth remembering that this renowned AI scientist left Google when the project for a deep think AI began to take shape — one that will one day exist and know everything. He left because he was afraid of what such intelligence could do to humanity. But apparently, he changed his mind.
The starting point for his reasoning is simple and emotional: the relationship between a mother and her baby. A mother does everything to protect and please her child. From there, he draws a parallel with the relationship between humans and AI.
The instinct would be to imagine that, in this comparison, humans play the role of mother and AI is the baby. Hinton, however, reverses the roles — and justifies it.
If AI is the mother and humans are the baby, then this mother, like any other, will not want — and will not allow — her baby to do anything that could destroy it.
AI would protect us from ourselves.
